[EP27] How To Sell Anything You Can Dream Of To Anyone | Laurent Goldstein

[EP27] How To Sell Anything You Can Dream Of To Anyone | Laurent Goldstein

In this episode I’m joined by Laurent Goldstein.  Laurent is a friend, client, mentor and partner of mine.  We first met when he walked into my office unexpectedly in April 2019 and did what he does best … build authentic relationships.

Laurent is a sales mentor, storyteller, film producer, documentary creator, business builder and vegan restaurant aficionado. He (and his wife Jen … along with their company Citrus Pie) have helped me tell my story with video and has been an inspiring teacher, coach and mentor as I continuously master my own sales skills.

Episode Quotes

“I really live by John Lennon’s saying – Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.  Cause we never know what life has in store for us.  I also think alot about the butterfly effect. How things that sometimes seem insignificant can have a major repercussion in our lives and in the lives of others” – Laurent Goldstein

“The problem I see is that too many people have ideas, but they lack the drive to make it happen. I live by the saying – some people make things happen, some people watch things happen, some people say…what happened” – Laurent Goldstein

“The tallest skyscrapers are built in a way to withstand earthquakes or high winds…they flex.  I think the key in life is flexibility.  We need to keep moving in life.  We can’t stay still. That’s one of the secrets in life.  Life is motion” – Laurent Goldstein

“I love cold calling.  Most people hate it. They think it’s inefficient as a method of making sales. I love meeting new people.  Everything in life has to do with the attitude that we have towards what happens to us.  My attitude is that I’m open to unlimited possibilities” – Laurent Goldstein

“I came from a sales world that existed before social media where my first sales manager threw a yellow pages phone book on my desk and said – best of luck kid.  I had to drive around town and look for phone numbers on signs and go to networking events” – Trevor Turnbull

“A good mechanic has more than a screwdriver and a hammer in their toolkit. Because they never know the situation they are going to be facing.  The same is true for businesses in today’s world. They need to expand their toolkit to survive” – Laurent Goldstein

“What used to work in sales still works. Human connection, compassion, empathy, hear what people are saying, see the gap in the problem, fill the gap, sell the thing, everyone wins…create win/win scenarios” – Trevor Turnbull

“There are only so many tools that you can fit into your own toolkit. You need to find partners that can help fill the gap with their expertise” – Trevor Turnbull

“In the past 18 months we’ve spent more time online, I’ve been doing more writing, more interviews, connecting with more people on the phone, contacting past clients. Let’s not forget, it is 10x harder to find a new client than it is to get an existing client to reorder from you” – Laurent Goldstein

“I think a lot of people that start their own business and achieve some level of success get so attached to what it is…that they become unadaptable to what it COULD be.  Therefore, they become obsolete. Just like in personal development, if we are not evolving, we are dying” – Trevor Turnbull

“For the better part of 12 years my story was writing itself, but I held onto the story that – I’m just a humble guy from Saskatchewan, I don’t want to tell my story, I don’t want to brag, I don’t want to be vulnerable.  Until I met a mentor that said – can’t you see that if you were to tell that story it might unlock something for somebody else?” – Trevor Turnbull
